I Love Walled Gardens
rinich:
There is a complaint running around that the iPad is a closed system, that people aren’t free to customize it, that it’s not opened up so that we can all poke around inside it. Complaints are the the iPad is killing off an idea of computing that’s open and free for all.
To which I say: Good! Does anybody remember what using a computer is like? I spent a week after reinstalling my...
On the iPad
I love it. I see many people complaining, but I don’t understand why. The iPad is just about everything I thought it would be. It’s about 10”, runs iPhone OS, can function as a ebook-reader, has onscreen keyboard. The only thing I miss is handwriting recognition, but that is probably possible to implement in an app. I kind of miss the possibility to bookmark and mark text in...
Parents
I love my parents. Thanks for helping me out and for being so understanding!
Life is like a roller coaster, it goes up and down. Right now it’s deep down, but I’m positive it will go up again at some point.
Belarus: love and paranoia | openDemocracy →
A book on paranoia suddenly disappears. Two days after it hits Minsk bookshops and Belarus’s internet retailers, it is suddenly “unavailable”. Neither inquiring readers nor embarrassed sales staff are given any explanation. It is as if the book never existed. But it does, and free electronic versions of the elusive novel are now spawning on the net.

And it winks when it goes out,

Yes, I looked at Posterous when it appeared, but I didn’t care enough to send a fucking email. On Tumblr you just register an account and off you go.

A Lecture about English:
somethingintellectual:
A linguistics professor was lecturing to his English class one day. “In English,” he said, “A double negative forms a positive. In some languages, though, such as Russian, a double negative is still a negative. However, there is no language wherein a double positive can form a negative.” A voice from the back of the room piped up, “Yeah, right.”
